For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (Isaiah 11:2, John 14:27) Fear and Faith In my daily prayer life, I ask God for clear direction. Lord, direct my paths, make them clear to me so that I do not make a false move. But yet fear sets in, I panic and then I react on that very emotion. God is very open about fear. It is oppressive and does not belong in the life of a believer for it causes us to operate within the “realm of the flesh.” When fear settles in, there is no room for faith for neither can operate at the same time. “When one is acted upon it negates the other” (Faith Vs. Fear). No Faith, No Praise Fear causes doubt and doubt causes instability (James 1:6). An unstable mind will drive me here and there to searching for the answer when God has already made it clear to me. A believer’s life is faith-based and that base is solid, it is a rock (Matthews 7:24-25). My having faith means that I will move on God’s directions and promises without question. For my interrogation of God in the why and how, shows lack of trust. How can I praise God if I do not trust Him? And praise is very much a part of a believer’s life. My studies ...

For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”[a] 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,”[b] but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 1 Peter: 2:19-25 Just a thought: During my quiet time I re-read 1 Peter 2:11-25, Ephesians 6:5-9 and Colossians 3:22-4:15. I pulled out alot but what really stuck with me was this: It’s not about me at all. When I feel like I’m being wronged or someone close to me is being persecuted unfairly, the first thing I want to do is lash out…retaliate. But then, how will this affect my witness? My behaviour, my response — is my testimony. To endure ...

Acts 10:34-35 “Ever shop at an outlet mall?” Pastor Breaux asked this question and I immmediately smiled and nodded in response along with the rest of my brothers and sisters in the sanctuary. “Ever sifted through the seventy percent off rack and picked up a shirt or blouse and attached to the price tag was a label that read, ‘slightly irregular’ and yet still think it was an awesome deal?” Again, my response was affirmative. I reminisced about my recent ventures into the Bloomingdale Outlet and how I’d mentally high-fived myself for a major score on a $250 dress marked down to $25 due to a slight imperfection in the fabric. Flawed as the item may have been, I was still picturing myself sashaying in my new frock and a pair of my infamous five-inch heels that would “Soooooo work with this color!” Pastor Breaux, “Why is it that we readily accept a defective article of clothing yet we will judge others on their [curbside] appeal and [find them lacking]? My wife: she’s got a beautiful spirit, great with the kids, an awesome cook, but then she’s gained weight. My husband: he’s an amazing man, fears God, loves me and the children, but I wish he made more money. My son: he’s got a dynamic sense of humor, ...

I just wanted to inform you about an opportunity that came up for me to return to Panama for missions. As many of you know, this has been on my heart ever since I returned to the US. I have a friend from Panama who went through YWAM (Youth with a Mission), the same missions organization that I went through when I first went to Panama. He lives in Panama. His plan is to build a school to teach the Panamanians English, Spanish, and Mandarin. Panama is made up of both the Latin American culture as well as the Chinese culture. He has asked me if I would be willing to return to Panama to help run the ministry/business, as well as teach English. The plan for the school is also to allow students from abroad to come to Panama to practice their Spanish. We plan to start small, and grow as the Lord guides and directs. This is also a great opportunity for me to return to Panama to continue in some of the other ministries I was helping in various parts of Panama. I am hoping to return some time between January to March. But, we will see how the Lord works in this. I am asking that you would pray about partnering with me in this ministry. To live in Panama I would need to raise approximately $1000 per month. This includes rent, food, transportation, and basic necessities. If it is the Lord’s will I know He ...

Hello, my name is Brandi. I am a 34 year-old, single Christian woman looking for what every other woman wants – Love. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Wait! Come back! Don’t run away! Enhance your calm! This isn’t what it looks like! I promise there is no Poverbial biological clock here. As a matter of fact, the Snoopy watch I’m currently wearing doesn’t even work. Come to think of it, none of my watches do. Clears throat. So! As awkward as this is for me to discuss my personal life with anyone, I’ve decided to give you a peek nonetheless. I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not very good at dating – I am inexperienced in this new age bracket of thirty-somethings and up. Being an introvert does not help my cause; add Christian on top of that and you’ve got yourself the makings of a best-selling, Pulitzer Prize worthy novel. Why are you laughing? This is a serious matter here! What? You think I’m boring because I’m a Christian, don’t you? Twenty bucks says you’re picturing me in a nun’s habit, rosary in hand, ready for the convent. Think again, buddy! We may have contrasting views on lifestyle; however, the wants and needs are still very much there. But I digress. Out of curiosity, I joined a Christian dating site in order to meet more people with similar beliefs – expand my dating horizons. Profile created, photos added and approved, and inquiring mind ready; I got down to business flipping through pages of “I’m looking ...

Unfortunately, this is not an all inclusive account of self-degradation. For years, I listened to others (my peers, strangers, even family) ridicule me for not being educated enough, rich enough, pretty enough, slender enough, fashionable enough, even sexy enough. And years later, after all the public bullying and humiliation had somewhat subsided, I found myself standing in the mirror, repeating every repulsive word – mentally tearing myself apart in a very degrading soliloquy of self-abasement. Please understand, I am not seeking your sympathy. I am only pointing out a real issue that has not only effected me, but represents the very private lives of others – perhaps even yourself. But why even bring this up, Brandi? I’m glad you asked. I wanted to share four words with you: fearfully and wonderfully made. Ha! I’ve heard you say this quite a bit. You post it almost every other week on Facebook, followed up by some rant about how you’re beautiful, resilient, intelligent, priceless…yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blaaaaah! Some of the truest words spoken; however, I promise you, not done so out of arrogance. Let me explain! For a long time, it was a mystery to me how people who didn’t quite fit the mold favored by ...

When I was in high school, my path was set. I was to become a journalist in the Pulitzer Prize extraordinary sense. I saw myself as the next Barbara Walters, Anna Quindlen, Walter Cronkite or even Peter Jennings! When I dream, I dream BIG - three dimensional, high-definition and in Bose surround sound! Never once did I ever think my life would take a completely different direction. Instead of a byline with the New York Times, I ended up near homeless and starving on the streets of New York City – living in every borough and sleeping on roach infested couches just trying to survive. When I was able to return home, I did so with my tail between my legs, head hung low and broken in spirit. However, my stubborn nature would not let me wallow in my own proverbial pig pen for very long. Before I knew it, I was back in the boxing ring and ready to take life on with a vengeance only to find myself, once again, flat on my face and really ticked off with God. And so began my epic adventure of faux pas and fiascos, consummated by “why me” soliloquies worthy of a Shakesperean sonnet. Years later, sitting in church service, listening intently to the words of Teaching Pastor Josh Peigh, I had a “duh” moment. WHY NOT ME?! All this time I spent questioning my life and God; the paths I took, the decisions I made, the heartaches, the heartbreaks, the backstabbing, ridicule, constant trip ups and let downs – He finally gave me an answer! ...

Matthew 5:37 “All you need to say is simply “Yes” or “No”; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” A friend of mine recently posted on Facebook, excited, about a second date he was going on. Afterwards, however, he said the girl didn’t even show up. No text, email, phone call. She just didn’t show up. Everything had seemed to be going fine. They both said they enjoyed the first date. But her yes didn’t really mean yes. This happens a lot in life, but even more in the dating world. Most of us (me included) walk around so worried we might hurt someone’s feelings that we don’t say anything at all. I used to run a homeschool co-op with a group of four other ladies. I was the, shall we say, firecracker of the group, passionate, emotional, got things done. The other ladies were all very nice women, very quiet and controlled. One day, out of nowhere, they told me they didn’t want me teaching a class the next semester. “You’re too high-strung and it’s not a good lesson for the kids.” Ouch. The lesson itself, by the way, was accurate. I was trying to do too much and I was pretty stressed all the time. But it was a 12-week semester and they were talking to me at the very end. No one thought to say something early on when I could have taken the lesson and used it to moderate my behavior. It hurt more ...

Hey everyone. I wanted to send a more recent update. I had the chance today to speak, very briefly, with the director of the school. I was told that I would not be teaching at PCA next year. I was not given a reason for this decision. I hear this happens very often, every year really. I think it has something to do with legalities. But, I am not sure. With that being said, I will need to start raising support again in order to remain doing missions work in Panama. I am asking that you would pray and consider sponsoring me. It would not have to be much, especially if I can get enough supporters. I have a lot of opportunities here to share the gospel with a wide range of people. I am also working on some ways to perhaps provide for myself in order to stay in Panama. I want to follow the example of Paul as he worked to provide for himself. But, he also received gifts from those who supported his ministry when needed. I am praying for gracious givers who can give cheerfully, until the Lord provides another way. The following is a list of things I would be doing if able to stay in Panama: 1. Work with under privileged youth in a poor section of Panama called Curundu. I would teach them English as well as the gospel. I have pics of me doing this last year in my FB albums. 2. ...
